Daily reading: Tuesday 3 November 2026

Today’s theme: native tools for agent work. Your Electron vs native thread meets your agent tooling interest. The editors and terminals people use to run agents are moving to Rust, while the UI layer often stays in JavaScript.

  1. Another Zed derivative was just announced (Chimin, 5 min) This is by the same writer as the cmux to Orca piece you read in September. Relates to: your Electron vs native thread. Zed is the Rust, GPU-rendered answer to VS Code, which you now know is Electron. Seeing forks appear means the native editor is becoming a platform, the way VS Code did for Cursor and Windsurf.
  2. Why Rust + WebAssembly is becoming the secret backend of high-performance apps (Mr. Hotfix, 8 min) Relates to: the middle ground between TinyJS and Snow UI. The UI stays JavaScript or React (like Orca), and the heavy lifting moves to Rust. It follows on from yesterday’s “Why is everything written in Rust now?”.
  3. Unified interface for agent harnesses (Agent Native, 10 min, from a writer you follow) Relates to: yesterday’s “Building the harness around AI coding tools” and “OpenClaw or Hermes?” picks. It’s about wiring one interface to whichever harness you choose.
  1. Ghostty’s creator returns with Rex, combining tmux and AI (Chimin, 5 min) Relates to: the Orca migration piece. cmux and Orca are both about running many agents side by side, and Rex tackles that from the terminal.
  2. DuckDB 2.0 broke my mental model of DuckDB (Bernd Fischer, 6 min) Relates to: the “100x faster than Parquet” and “just use Postgres” picks. It’s another case of the embedded analytics stack changing quickly.
  3. Is Cloudflare the big fish swallowing Vercel and Supabase? (Joe T. Santhanavanich, Level Up Coding, 14 min) Relates to: Platform & infra. It’s a platform consolidation story worth skimming.

You sent yourself about 300 links on saved since 2023. They’re now in the reading log under “saved backlog”. These five fit today’s theme best:

  1. Anthropic’s new harness engineering playbook shows why your AI agents keep failing (saved 8 Apr 2026) Relates to: #3 and yesterday’s “Building the harness around AI coding tools”.
  2. The best terminal for Claude Code: Ghostty (saved 4 May 2026), plus the ghostling repo you saved in March Relates to: #4, Ghostty’s creator moving on to Rex.
  3. t3code (GitHub repo, saved 16 Mar 2026) Relates to: the Orca and cmux pieces. It’s another app for driving coding agents.
  4. The great framework showdown: Superpowers vs BMAD vs SpecKit vs GSD (Richard Hightower, saved 22 Mar 2026) Relates to: the spec-driven development pick from 1 November.
  5. 60–95% fewer tokens with Claude Code and Codex (Agent Native, saved 21 Jun 2026) Relates to: the “Claude Code talks too much” hook piece, and Agent Native is the writer behind #3.
  • The Norway/Putin piece (off topic), “Four labs just shipped agents” (hype), “Is Rust the perfect language for LLMs?” (an opinion piece that overlaps with #2), the ugly PPTX slides piece, the Anthropic IPO breakdown, the Midjourney portfolio piece, and the deep research memory piece. The Netflix knowledge graph article came up again but is already on your list from yesterday.

Note: links between pieces are based on digest blurbs only.
